Global Content

Many elements return in almost every mailing, such as your header, footer, legal notices, the “view online version” link or a seasonal promotional banner. Until now, changing one of them meant editing every template, saved block and campaign that contained it. Global Content fixes that.

Global Content is a central library of reusable content elements. You maintain an element in one place, and Maileon automatically updates it in every template, saved block and campaign that uses it. Your branding and legal texts stay consistent, you save time, and no outdated version gets sent by mistake.

What you should know:

  • Global Content elements are available in the Campaign Content Editor (under saved > Global Content) and in the Global Content library.
  • You manage all elements on the Global Content overview page under Data. This page also shows every campaign that uses each element.
  • Inside a campaign, you can duplicate or delete a Global Content element directly from its toolbar.
  • The content of a Global Content element is protected inside a campaign. To change it, you first unlink the element.

The guides below walk you through the full workflow.

1. Save elements as Global Content

To get started, turn an existing element from one of your mailings into Global Content, for example your footer or the link to the online version. This guide shows how to save a selected element as Global Content from the editor, give it a clear name and optionally add keywords so you can find it quickly later. Once saved, the element is available to reuse across your whole account.

2. Add Global Content to your mailings

After an element is in your library, you can place it in any mailing. This guide shows how to find your Global Content under the saved items in the Campaign Content Editor and add it to your mailing. The element stays linked to the original, so later changes you make centrally are applied automatically.

3. Edit and save Global Content

Need to change the text of a footer, disclaimer or online-version link? This guide shows how to change a Global Content element from within a mailing. You unlink the element, make your changes, select the complete block again and save it as Global Content. Then you click Update to push the new version to the Global Content library and to all mailings that use it.

Tip: if you can’t select the whole block, select its parent element.

4. Manage and edit Global Content

All your Global Content elements are listed on one overview page. This guide shows how to open the Global Content overview under Data > Global Content, browse your elements (for example your standard footer) and open a mailing that uses Global Content to review or edit its content.

5. Check Global Content referrers

Before you change or remove an element, check where it is used. This guide shows how to open the referrers of a Global Content element: a list of every template, saved block and mailing that references it. That way you know which mailings an update will affect.
