Single opt-in

Permission is granted in a single step. In a one-step process, the contact person gives consent to receive newsletters.

Example: A customer fills out a competition form at the car dealership and confirms that they would like to receive newsletters. The registration is now considered complete.

3

Confirmed opt-in

In the confirmed opt-in process, a confirmation email is sent to the email address after signing up for the newsletter. However, this does not include an additional confirmation link, as the newsletter registration becomes valid immediately.

Example: After signing up for the newsletter in an online shop, the customer receives an email confirming their registration. They are now successfully subscribed.

4

Double Opt-in

In email marketing, double opt-in refers to the process where each registrant must confirm their email address in the distribution list in a second step. They then receive an email at the provided address, including a link requesting confirmation.

Example: After signing up for the newsletter in an online shop, the customer receives an email in which they need to confirm their registration again. If this is not done within the specified period, the subscription will not take place.

5

Double Opt-in plus individual user tracking

The process here is identical to the double opt-in method, but the contact person also consents to individual user tracking. This is usually done by manually ticking a box when signing up for the newsletter. Individual user tracking enables personalised tracking and is recommended unless otherwise specified.

Example: After signing up for the newsletter in an online shop and confirming individual user tracking, the customer receives an email in which they need to confirm their registration again. If this is not done within the specified period, the subscription will not take place.
