After clicking on the button, the “Contact filter creation” menu appears. First a name must be entered, then you can start creating the filter by clicking on the link “Add new filter condition”. The first step is to choose the starting amount.

Filter condition editor

At least one filter condition is necessary for the creation. You can create several conditions within a rule; the necessary operators are available in the selection list. The content must be separated by line or by semicolon. The following operators are available for "Content of a contact field", for example: is equal, is not equal, is part of the list, is not part of the list, contains, does not contain, starts with, ends with, is empty, is not empty:

Starting amount : The editor first shows the selection field "Starting amount" . You can start with 0 contacts and then add contacts or select all contacts with an active status or all contacts as the starting quantity and then subtract contacts if necessary. The option "all contacts with active status" only selects e-mail addresses that are actually suitable for sending. Contacts with the status "blocked" (through bounce policy or blacklists) and unsubscribers are not selected here. “All contacts”, on the other hand, considers addresses with any status. Set operation: If you have selected "0 contacts" as the start quantity, only "Add contacts" is available as a selection option. For "all contacts" there are the options "Remove contacts" and "Select sample" (each time the contact filter or coverage is updated, a new, random sample selection is created!). You can choose a number of contacts or a percentage of the total number of contacts as the contact quantity for the sample. For the selection option "all contacts with active status" an intersection can also be formed as a set operation, eg: "Create the intersection of the set of contacts with active status and the set of contacts for which the content of the last name contact field equals the value Mustermann corresponds to ". Selection basis: The most common variant is "content of a contact field". Depending on the existing contact fields and values, conditions can be created here. The operators depend on the data field type. Example: if you want to add all female contacts to the starting set 0, this requires a valid value in the “Gender” contact field. The selection basis would be “content of a contact field”, the condition “gender”, operator “equals”, value “female”. Other possible variants would be "Geographical reference" (with the "Start interactive map" option to define or limit areas), "Response information" (eg was sent, opened, clicked, etc.), "Distribution list or contact filter affiliation" (requires the presence of the same), "contact import affiliation" and "contact events" (e.g. purchase in the online shop,


Examples of selection basis

Selection basis "contact import affiliation"

If “contact import affiliation” is selected as the selection basis, a condition such as “was created by contact import (or imported)” can be created with subsequent selection of the desired import. It should be noted here that the  automatic import via FTP server is  only included if tracking was  activated when the relevant FTP import  was created.

Selection basis "response information"

If you select "Response information" as the selection basis, the following operators appear in the selection list: was sent, bounced, opened, open rate, opened (unique), open rate (unique), clicked, click rate, clicked (unique), Click rate (unique), has registered, has canceled, has sent returns: For the option "has sent returns" you can optionally expand the condition by:

- Period  (in which period did the return arrive)

- Time  (when exactly was the return received =

- Sending  (to which the manual response refers) and

- Category of returns .

Further context-related operators are displayed depending on the selection. You can also select contacts who are also Maileon users and thus quickly create an internal test list, for example. Such test lists are ideal for checking the mailing again before actually sending it. Depending on the selection basis, you can create extremely precise contact filters. Proceed as follows in the filter condition editor:

"Geographical reference" selection basis

The selection "Geographical reference" calls up a geoselector in which you can choose between various actions: loading a standard area, loading a custom area, creating an area (freehand), creating a vicinity search, creating a route selection and creating a Population density selection. Depending on the selected action, further steps in this workflow appear context-sensitive.

=> after at least one filter condition has been created, you can save the contact filter by clicking on the button of the same name If you transfer the necessary information to Maileon as part of a contact event (eg " purchase "), you can also create RFM- based contact filter rules . For this, the following information is required as a minimum: when has the contact recently made purchases (Recency), how often did they buy (Frequency) and how much money was spent (Monetary). A sensible contact filter rule could therefore be, for example: “Select all contacts whose average value of the property 'purchase price' of the event ' purchase ' is greater than or equal to 50 euros.
